Beginning, middle or end of the career pattern, where are you and does it make a difference? For many, who set off years ago, it was seen a long steady climb with a gold watch or mantel clock at the end but all that has changed. The era of early retirement, a phenomenon of the end of the last century has gone and now the notion of a portmanteau career pattern is the view for the future. That is, for those who have careers. Many have a job and get on with it or not as it turns out. The way we view what is we do says a lot about us. Many of us get from the beginning to the end of our working lives without having any clear view of what is was we really wanted to do. Many of us are thwarted by events and never realise the career ambitions we cherished. Many of us take that leap into the unknown, throw over stability and salary, and go in search of that dream.
